The Hollywood Bowl is a significant piece of architecture in Los Angeles and a witness to the music industry's development over the past hundred years. For the new logo design, I attempted to combine those two elements, so I sampled the curvilinear arc of the Hollywood Bowl's shell, using these curves to form the shape of a lowercase "h" very smoothly.
I separated the visual system into two different approaches. The first one I got inspiration from was the iconography on the music sheets. I am using notes from the sheets, such as the crescendo and the smorzando marks.
The second visual system is from more special aspects. It is a real-time generated music wheel that can be projected on the Hollywood Bowl itself and create patterns by the music on the stage.
Even the audience sitting far back can feel the musicality and singing atmosphere during the concert.
The two visual systems can work together, using the music wheels if there’s more prominent space and the pattern of the notes for narrower spaces to connect the texts.
